Primary School Food Co-ops are delivered by parents and local people selling good quality and value fruit and vegetables to parents picking up their children at the end of the school day. We employ and manage local people, order the stock and manage the finances. We are planning to open 4 more co-ops over the next two years targeting school communities where over 50% of pupils receive free school meals. The average number of portions eaten by parents who responded to questionnaires was 2.8 a day. 80% of adults said that as a result of the food co-op they are now eating more fruit and vegetables. Children can influence their parents to buy fruit for them and when the co-ops are open they can be seen snacking on fruit after school.
